School Lunch Farm is founded on the desire create healthier soil and community by growing nutrient dense organic vegetables and fruits, heirloom and specialty crops for community supported agriculture shareholders, schools, low-income community members, farm markets, and restaurants. School Lunch Organic Farm's Vision is that everyone should have access to healthy organic produce…. those who can pay and those who cannot. Our vision is to help solve this disparity. Internship Details:

School Lunch Organic Farm & CSA is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager for the 2023 season. Ideal candidate is interested in a career in agriculture or sustainability. The Assistant Farm Manager position is for a highly self-motivated individual, who embraces hard work, and can work in any weather conditions. Candidate should have a minimum of 2 years experience in organic or sustainable vegetable production. The Assistant Farm Manager in partnership with the Farmer-Owner will be responsible for overseeing greenhouse work, fieldwork, and CSA distribution. The Assistant Farm Manager will help train, direct and work with apprentices, interns and volunteers.
Skills Desired:
Responsibilities will include: Soil fertility, direct seeding, transplanting, cultivation, mechanical tillage, irrigation management, disease & pest control, crop rotation, routine equipment maintenance and daily record keeping. The ideal candidate would be available to start in March/April 2023. The Assistant Farm Manager candidate should have some mechanical skills, a valid drivers license, and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities:
● Greenhouse seed starting and nutrient management. Direct sowing in fields.
● Bed preparation: rock picking, cultivating, back pack flaming, weeding, and working with drip irrigation
● Record keeping
● Foliar spraying of crops for feeding and pest control
● Harvesting, cleaning, and storing vegetables
● Tractor and implement safety, maintenance, hookup, calibration and operation
● Farm Upkeep: mowing tractor ways and grass borders, weed-whacking, building, repairs, painting
● Working with apprentices, interns and volunteers—adults and children

Meals: Vegetables provided
