General Farm Description: Educational farm. Our programs emphasize conservation, community building, ecological farming, racial equity, sustainability, and permaculture. 85 acre property includes 65 acres of prairie, wetland, and forest habitats; 20 acres of rotationally grazed pastures and hayfields for horses and goats; season extending hoophouse; restored historic barn; handmade log cabin, small laboratory. Registered 501(c)3.

Internship Details:

Position: CSA Manager, Educational Farm & Summer Camp Counselor, Intern. Prairie Winds Nature Farm, Inc. near South Bend, Indiana
Status: Full-time temporary

Primarily responsible for garden planning & maintenance, production & preparation of vegetables for a small weekly CSA. Supervise volunteers & assist director with school tours and summer camps. Our programs emphasize conservation, community building, ecological farming, racial equity, sustainability, and permaculture.

Educational Opportunities: Educational programming ongoing for almost 2 decades. Learn conservation practices, low input organic gardening, experiential teaching, animal husbandry, and more! If you enjoy children and being outdoors all summer, and would like a leadership position in farm production, this position could be a step up toward independent operation of an educational farm business. Supportive, academic oriented environment - we are nature nerds! In addition to gardening we teach children & adults horseback riding, birdwatching, searching for wild edibles, and identification of wild plants & animals.

Skills Desired: First Aid Certification, Drivers License, Lifesaving Certification, 4-H, Scouts. Will consider highly motivated high school grad with at least one garden related internship already OR experience in home vegetable gardening. Preference will be given to applicants with Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Education, Agriculture, Natural Resources, Business (with a desire to apply degree to the fields listed).
