General Farm Description: Paradise Valley Produce is a 5 acre organic row crop farm in Bolinas, CA that has been in operation for about 40 years. We use new and traditional bio intensive practices to cultivate the highest quality produce with a focus on soil health and microbial life. We are two miles from the ocean and border the Point Reyes National Seashore. We propagate and use beneficial indigenous microorganisms to sustain our living soil and maintain the nutrient cycle. We make compost, and extracts from plants, fish and kelp. All the fields are covercroped in the winter. We sell at 2 farmers markets in Marin County and local stores and restaurants. We are hiring 3 full-time employees for our upcoming farm year. 2 positions start May 1 and 1 position starts July 1st. Ideal candidates will have at least 1 year of experience in farming, a strong work ethic and a desire to learn. The best way to learn about farming is by doing it! We strive to create a positive farming atmosphere where Interns gain agricultural educations through intensive farming along side the owners. At Paradise Valley you will be involved with all aspects of the farm, from seeding, weeding, transplanting, building, harvesting, farmers markets, deliveries, etc.
Farm days can be long and hard but often rewarding. We need those who join our team to have an open mind and a passion for their work. Every farm is different and Paradise Valley is especially unique in its practices, location and experience.
Basic housing is available for rent within the valley. Food produced at the farm is free for consumption and the local town is 2 miles away. We work five and a half days a week and no part-time work available. Please send a resume and cover letter to paradisevalleyproduce210@gmail.com.
Educational Opportunities: You will learn all general farming practices through participation over a full farm season. This includes growing a wide variety of produce and selling in weekly farmers markets. In addition, you will learn to propagate Beneficial Indigenous Microorganisms and make extracts from kelp, fish and plants. You will also make and use compost and compost teas.
Skills Desired: We will only hire those who are hard working and committed to a full season. You must pay attention to detail, have a desire to farm, and be willing to accept constructive criticism and guidance. Candidates must have experience with farming vegetables (Minimum if 1 year experience is desired.) You must also be able to live and work with a group. We do much of our intensive organic farming with hand tools so you must be able to lift 50 pounds, work on your hands and knees, and handle long physical labor.
