General Farm Description: Gray Sky Farm is a 15 acre diversified livestock farm nestled in a secluded valley 23 miles southeast of downtown Seattle, WA, USA. We breed and raise heritage pigs, as well as raise poultry for meat. We work with our animals in a respectful way that utilizes rather than suppresses their instincts and characteristics.

Internship Details:
In this role you’ll have a chance to learn about/how to:
*work with pigs, chickens, and turkeys, to produce the happiest, healthiest animals that we can
*the often muddy, messy, tedious, and profoundly unromantic side of farming – this would be a great opportunity to find out if it’s for you
*practice rotational grazing to promote pasture fertility and animal health, using portable electric fencing and solar fence energizers
*breeding pigs – every pig we raise comes from our own breeding stock of Berkshire and Gloucester Old Spot pigs
*humane poultry slaughter and butchery
*talk to customers and sell our products at farmers’ markets.
Educational Opportunities: We can partner with the UW to get you credit for the internship if you desire.
Skills Desired: *have your own transportation and living arrangements (lodging not provided)
*are able to commit for three months or more (through Sept 2020)
*have a great time doing hard work with other people
can lift heavy objects without harming yourself or others
*are eager and willing to learn new techniques, as well as sharing your knowledge and experience
