Internship information
General Farm Description: Each week, interns split their time between two farms (generally one day at Persephone, and four days at Full Tilth). Persephone Farm (Indianola) is a 30 year old mixed-veggie and flower farm employing human scale, regenerative, bio-intensive practices. Full Tilth Farm (Poulsbo) uses no-till techniques to grow about an acre of mixed vegetables and about an acre of berries, and propagates plant starts in greenhouses. Sales outlets include an online marketplace, local farmers market, CSA, and restaurants. All organic practices used. The farms are about 15 min (driving) apart from each other, are a short ferry ride from Seattle and close to great hiking on the Olympic Peninsula.CRAFT Member Farm? No

FULL FOR 2026! Apply Fall ’26 for 2027 positions! Mid – or Full-season internship position with two complementary, multi-generational, women-owned small organic family farms! Interns will work alongside the farmers in a wide variety of vegetable, berry, and flower growing tasks: seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, pruning etc. You will help with sales at the local farmers market on Saturdays. Our normal weekly schedule is Tues – Sat with Sunday and Monday off. Several free educational workshops organized by WSU and Kitsap County Extension will be part of your curriculum (during work hours). We are excited to share our farming knowledge with a new generation of farmers!
Flexible start date and length of season. Please contact us if interested in full-season or just for mid-season only!
****Please submit a cover letter, resume and three references to apply.****
Educational Opportunities: Many opportunities for learning and leadership within a great community! This is primarily a work-based internship with most learning happening in the field. We have found it meaningful to take time during the workday to go over topics that are pertinent to the task at hand. You will get a well-rounded, hands-on experience of small-scale vegetable farming, including exposure to propagation, irrigation, soil preparation, weed management, season extension techniques, harvesting, insect & disease control, marketing, etc. Interns will participate in off-farm educational workshops (during work hours) run cooperatively by Washington State University (WSU) Kitsap County Extension and local farmers. This will help provide a broader perspective on farming options and skills. For individuals that are self-motivated and willing to commit time above and beyond the internship daily expectations, we can offer further learning opportunities in farm business planning, using draft horses, small construction, vineyard pruning and wine making, raising poultry, aquaponics, beekeeping, etc.
Skills Desired: We work hard and enjoy what we do! We farm because we love the lifestyle and strive to create a fun and happy environment in which to grow not only food, but community. Qualities we seek are a positive attitude, willingness to work and try hard, self motivation, excellent physical and mental health, including strong back and knees. Our team members are detail-oriented and able to follow directions well. We value a sense of humor, flexibility, and a love of healthy cooking and eating. We seek helpers with good verbal communication skills as we spend a lot of time together and enjoy good conversation as well as inquisitiveness for a participatory learning environment. You must have your own transportation (in order to get back and forth between the two farms.) Prior farming or gardening experience is preferable but not necessary. Interest in eventually starting your own farm business is a plus!
Meals: Produce from the farms will be available for your use all season. We generally bring our own lunches but eat together during work days and love to gather sporadically for an evening meal/potluck. Other than that, meals can be on your own or shared with other interns.
Stipend: Interns work part time on two farms, totaling 40 hours per week (up to 45-50 hours in July and Aug). Pay is approx $1200/month (DOE) with housing provided, educational curriculum, access to some farm produce for cooking, 3 paid days off and possible year-end bonus. With the price of housing in our area, we consider the free housing as a significant portion of the internship's "stipend" as well as the free educational opportunities available.
Housing: Housing and utilities are provided in a private yurt on quiet at Persephone Farm, which is an hour, including ferry ride, from downtown Seattle. Yurts are electrified, wood-stove-heated, furnished, and have WIFI access. There is a communal kitchen, shared bathroom and laundry a short distance from the yurt. The farm is in Indianola, within walking distance of a sandy swimming beach, miles of wooded trails and abundant wildlife.
Preferred method of Contact: Email preferred, phone ok.
