Position Summary: Flower Production Assistant
The flower production assistant position will entail all aspects of production including seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, and order fulfillment.
This is a seasonal full time or part-time position from May- mid November. A minimum commitment of 2 days/week is needed to be considered. Applicants that can commit to working one weekend day/week from Mid-June- Beginning of November are strongly preferred. pay commensurate with experience, starting at $19/hour and up.
Previous production work, farm work or agricultural education strongly preferred. Applicants should be in good physical condition.
This job is for someone who loves plants and working outdoors and takes pride in their work. Someone who is both physically and mentally tough. All members of our team need to be able to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner, and their work needs to be on par with our high-quality standards. The success of our small business depends greatly on teamwork and absences can have a very large impact. Potential applicants should feel confident in their ability to commit to the season, and their weekly schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Harvest: harvesting a diverse array of flowers as instructed, bucket washing, , bucket loading and unloading into vehicles/cooler
- Greenhouse: soil preparation for plug production, filling plug trays, sowing seeds, watering plugs and potted plants, propagation,
- Field maintenance: weeding, landscape fabric installation, installing plant support systems such as stakes for corralling or netting for trellising, drip tape removal. Beneficial insect application
- Field planting: fertilizer and compost application, planting plugs into the field, installing drip tape irrigation set up.
- Order Fulfillment: labeling buckets, pulling and prepping floral ingredients for bouquet making, sleeving bouquets, bouquet assembly.
- Cleaning: general cleanup of production areas
The ideal candidate will possess the following traits:
- Hardworking, self-motivated and able to maintain an energetic pace whether working alone or with a team.
- Able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather, maintain a positive outlook when faced with challenging physical work.
- Be able to repeatedly stand, bend, push/pull, crouch, and reach with hands. Be able to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
- Be a quick learner and possess solid memory skills.
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Asks for help when needed and is open to suggestions.
- Sense of humor
- Prompt and reliable
- Possesses a clear interest in organic flower production and farming.
