Internship information
General Farm Description: Lake Divide Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm in Jackson county, Michigan. We are managing 18 acres for production, and grow vegetables and fruit on 5-10 acres. We are committed to keeping food accessible and environmental stewardship. We are interested in forging long-term relationships with people sharing our goals. We sell through Michigan's historic Eastern market weekly, as well as the Open Air Market of Stockbridge. We have a credit based farm membership program (CSA.) We occasionally sell directly to several restaurants. We are working to provide season-round healthful produce to our community. In our efforts to keep food sustainable across socioeconomic barriers: We wholesale to the Greater Lansing Area Food Bank (a food pantry for food pantries.) We work with Allen Neighborhood (Lansing) and The Farm at St. Joe's (Ann Arbor), community-oriented collaborative CSA programs that are committed to getting fresh food to underserved communities. We ran a gofundme this spring to offer food to Stockbridge's own food pantry (Stockbridge Community Outreach.) We are now using that as a pilot program to seek grants to fund these efforts into the coming years. We opened a Community Account that anyone at our markets can use, no questions asked. In addition to growing vegetables we are actively workings towards our stewardship goals: Over the last 2 years we have installed 1.5 acres of pollinator habitat through NRCS grants and by the end of 2027, we will have just under 3 acres in the ground. We are working towards growing native seeds to bolster habitat restoration efforts. We are participating in a study aimed to develop understanding of the relationship between birds, insects and brassica production. By next year, we will be the proud new home to 19 nest boxes to house bluebirds, tree swallows, white breasted nuthatches, and tufted titmice! In our efforts to forge long term relationships with people sharing our goals, we have offered plots of land to committed crew members to act out their farm goals. We are also searching for people that want to stay with Lake Divide Farm for multiple seasons.
