Internship information
General Farm Description: Crag Moor Farm is a 162 acre regenerative farm in the Driftless Area north of Spring Green, Wisconsin. We currently graze Jersey cow/calf pairs and young stock for Grazin Acres, the raw milk dairy near Loganville. We also manage a small flock of laying hens, raise pasture run meat chickens, tend a fairly large garden, elderberry orchard and fruit orchard with apples, peaches, cherries, plums and asian pears. There is a 10 acre prairie restoration, 2 ridges that are being restored to an oak savanna landscape and a 3 acre wetland conservation area in addition to 125 acres of managed hardwood and pine forest and miles of woodland trails running throughout the farm. This year we will be setting up 4 or 5 rustic campsites complete with picnic tables, fire rings and composting toilet houses.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Our farm has many things going on so how you help out depends on your skills, interests and what you would like to learn. You can rotate from one job to another or choose an area that you would like to deepen your abilities in. Some jobs like rotating stock through the pasture and caring for the chickens are a daily activities. Other jobs like controlled burning the prairie, pruning and spraying dormant oil on fruit trees, thinning and care of vines and berry bushes, starting seedlings and planting veggies happen at specific times. Harvesting and processing produce happens whenever it needs to be done throughout the growing season. Mowing the lanes both through the forest and around the pastures is ongoing from May to Nov. Some forest management jobs like cutting tree vines, removing invasive plants, culling trees and making firewood fit in when they can. If drought sets in we water everything including the garden, orchards and greenhouse that needs water and is not irrigated.
Educational Opportunities: We have much knowledge and many skills to share and we are always learning too.
Skills Desired: Whatever ability and experience you bring will be helpful. We appreciate good communication skills & self responsibility. Being positive, willing to learn and eager to work hard and take charge of chores is a plus. Being able or willing to learn to drive a tractor, work with chainsaws and other power equipment and tools will be very beneficial. Skills in fixing things and/or building and construction are handy on a farm. Animal husbandry and enjoying the animals makes that part of farming fun. If you have a green thumb you will be the garden's best friend. Mostly it is about what do you want to learn about and do, what you can share to make things better and how willing you are to fit into the flow of what needs to be done in the moment to keep animals and plants happy and healthy and the farm humming along being the best it can be.
Meals: Yes, we have plenty of healthy farm sourced organic food to share.
Stipend: Yes, we can figure out what feels right.
Housing: Yes, a room in our large turn of the century farm house or if you want camping or RV on the farm.
