Maryland farmers can apply at local soil conservation district offices for grants to help pay for seed, labor, and equipment costs to plant soil-building cover crops this fall. This year’s base payment is $35/acre, but you can earn up to $65/acre in add-on incentives for using highly valued planting practices. Eligible cover crops include cereals, brassicas, legumes, and mixes. Qualifying planting dates and additional requirements are available online.
