Persephone Farm seeks dedicated individuals with a passion for farming to help grow vegetable seeds, garlic and other storage crops, and care for the land.
This position is a good fit for you if:
-you have previous farm experience: moving irrigation pipe and operating an irrigation pump, seeding, transplanting, weeding, operating tractors, mowers, discs and harrows, and threshing and cleaning seed crops
-you like tinkering, building and fixing things
-you enjoy working independently as well as in the company of a seasoned farmer with knowledge to share
-you prefer working outdoors among trees, a river, and hawks, to a desk or warehouse job.
Oportunidades educativas: This position is not an apprenticeship, per se, and I value your experience and independent work skills. However, while we are working, I am happy to share my 36 years experience on this land for the benefit of your farm career. I can offer information in many areas including:
- fertility and irrigation management
- tillage and cultivation techniques
- factors to consider in a land search
- propagation greenhouse management
- irrigation needs, scheduling and management
- variety trial data and results, especially winter-hardy and storage vegetables
- insectary plants and functional agricultural biodiversity
Habilidades requeridas: The following skills are helpful: moving irrigation pipe and operating an irrigation pump, seeding, transplanting, weeding, operating tractors, mowers, discs and harrows, and threshing and cleaning seed crops.
However a willingness to learn is most important.
