NCAT Horticulture Specialist Guy Ames isn’t letting the winter weather keep him from traveling the region this month to share information on horticulture topics. His first trip will take him to the Oklahoma & Arkansas Horticulture Industries Show Jan. 10-11 in Tulsa, Okla. The two-day conference, titled “Improving Your Production Toolbox,” will take place at the Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus. Guy will have an exhibitor booth with information about NCAT and publications from NCAT’s ATTRA – National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service. Visit https://attra.ncat.org for more information about ATTRA, including a list of over 300 publications on topics including horticulture, livestock, marketing, pest management and many more. If you’re in Tulsa this weekend, stop by the conference and say “hi” to Guy!
Later this month, Guy will travel to the St. Louis area to conduct a workshop titled “Fruit Tree Grafting and Organic Fruit Production.” The workshop, held on Jan. 25, is part of EarthDance Organic Farm’s educational offerings and will take place at the Ferguson Fire Station Community Room in Ferguson, Mo. In addition to speaking about organic orchard establishment, pruning, pest and disease control, and other aspects of orchard management, he will demonstrate how to graft trees. Participants will have the opportunity to practice grafting, and will be able to take home two newly grafted apple trees. For more information about the workshop, visit www.earthdancefarms.org/calendar/.
If you can’t make it to the workshop, check out the ATTRA webinar Budding and Grafting Fruit Varieties for Organic Production, which Guy presented in August 2013.
