Register Today for Oct. 18 Beginning Farmer Livestock Workshop

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) and the University of Arkansas are teaming up to offer a workshop for beginning livestock farmers on Thursday, October 18, 2018. The workshop will take place at The Farm at Barefoot Bend in Lonsdale, Arkansas, which is located between Little Rock and Hot Springs.

NCAT Southeast Regional Director Margo Hale and NCAT Livestock Specialist Linda Coffey will teach sessions on business planning, marketing, and sustainable livestock production. Damon and Jana Helton, owners of The Farm at Barefoot Bend, will lead a tour of the farm and hands-on training on topics including pastured poultry production, forested pork, and grass-fed cattle.

Damon and Jana will share their experiences getting started in farming and how their operation has grown. They will also lead a tour of their business, the Olde Crow General Store. The Heltons opened the store in 2015 to help market meat from their farm as well as other locally-produced items.

The workshop will start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. There is no cost for the workshop, but attendees must register. Lunch will be included, along with resource materials.

For more information about the workshop, contact Margo at 479-442-9824 or email margoh@ncat.org.
