Join NCAT’s Southeast Regional Director Margo Hale at an intensive pastured poultry workshop on May 31, 2014, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Terrell “Spence” Spencer of Across the Creek Farm will host the workshop for the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA). Across the Creek Farm raises pastured, non-GMO chicken for commercial and direct-to-consumer sales.
Spence and Cody Hopkins of Falling Sky Farm will lead a session on meat bird production. Jeff Mattocks of The Fertrell Company will lead two sessions: one on health, nutrition, and feed; and another on commercial egg production. A panel including Spence, Cody, local chefs, and meat buyers will discuss restaurant and commercial sales.
Registration is required and can be completed online here. The registration fee is $20 for individuals or $15 per person for family or farm members who will attend together. Lunch is included with the registration fee. Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging.
Saturday’s workshop will be held on the Spencer family’s leased farm in Fayetteville. Workshop participants are invited to tour the Spencers’ home farm on Sunday morning, June 1. Spence will show the group his forest and pastured pigs, goats, and brooder operations for his poultry enterprise. There is no cost to attend this informal tour.
