It’s a new year with new conferences just around the corner! Specialists from NCAT Southeast will lead sessions and staff trade-show booths at three upcoming events.

Guy Ames will present two sessions and participate in a roundtable discussion during the Horticulture Industries Show in Fort Smith, Ark., Jan. 16-17. Guy’s first session is titled “Climate Change & Perennial Fruits: Investing in Resilience” and will take place on Friday morning. His second session, titled “No Spray Fruits for OK & AR,” is scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The roundtable discussion, “Mama, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Farmers: Can We Sustain Our Farmers?” takes place on Friday afternoon. Registration will be available on-site for those who haven’t pre-registered. For more information visit www.hortla.okstate.edu/research-and-outreach/programs/2015HIS.

While Guy is in Fort Smith, Linda Coffey and Margo Hale will travel to Mobile, Ala., to the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group (SSAWG) conference Jan. 14-17. The SSAWG conference, which is geared toward organic and sustainable commercial farmers and local-food advocates, is extremely popular and regularly draws more than 1,000 attendees. Margo will lead a networking session for military veterans who farm. Linda will facilitate an information exchange session titled “Raising Goats for Meat and Dairy: Problem Solving.” Visit www.ssawg.org/january-2015-conference for more information.

Next month, Guy will travel to Pittsboro, North Carolina, to present his talk on climate change and perennial fruits at the 3rd Annual Climate Change Adaptation Conference presented by Abundance North Carolina. The conference takes place at Central Carolina Community college on Feb. 6. Other session topics include seed saving, permaculture, season extension, farm cisterns, and more.
