NCAT is pleased to announce the opening of our seventh regional office this month, this one located in Jackson, Mississippi. Recognizing a great need for services in the Gulf States, we launched this new office to provide assistance and information specifically targeted to the agriculture producers in this region.
States that will be served by this new office include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Thanks to board member Beneta Burk, our staff will be located in the Mississippi Roadmap to Health Equity facility at 2458 Livingston Road, Jackson, MS 39213. The phone is (479) 575-1385.
New director for the office is Rockiell Woods. Rock served as the regional extension coordinator serving the Delta region for Alcorn State University prior to joining NCAT. He holds a bachelor of science degree in agribusiness management and a masters degree in agriculture economics from Alcorn State.
Also joining the NCAT team in the new office are Felicia Bell and Jim Ewing. Felicia will serve as an agriculture specialist for the region. She is a co-owner and operator of the RD&S Farm, which features natural livestock production and certified organic produce. Other business ventures in which she has been involved include Precious Little Angels Family Resource Centers, and family businesses S.J. Bell’s Plumbing & Repair Service, and R.D. Burnett’s Baseball Park & Recreation Center. Felicia also serves as state chairwoman of the Mississippi chapter of the National Women in Agriculture Association.
Jim Ewing is our new outreach specialist for the Jackson office. He had worked as a writer and editor for The Clarion-Ledger, Mississippi’s largest newspaper, before joining NCAT. He is a three-time winner of the J. Oliver Emmerich Award for Editorial Excellence, the Mississippi Press Association’s highest honor for commentary. Jim has also served in a variety of nonprofit leadership positions, mostly in the food, farming and environmental sector. He is a 2013 winner of Gaining Ground – Sustainability Institute of Mississippi Sustainable Works award for his leadership in promoting organics, environmental stewardship and sustainable living.
We are pleased that we can now offer programs and services in the Gulf states, and welcome our new staff members to our great team of specialists.
