NCAT Poultry Specialist Kevin Ellis will be a featured presenter at the 2014 Missouri Livestock Symposium. The free conference, organized by the University of Missouri Extension Service, will be December 5-6, at William Matthew Middle School in Kirksville, Missouri.
The symposium will include two workshops from NCAT Poultry Specialist Kevin Ellis. The first lecture will cover general backyard poultry and will include what you need to know in setting up a flock. Kevin will offer advice on breeds, housing, feed, general life cycle and other topics that need to be taken into consideration before the birds arrive. The second lecture will be a more in-depth look at predation on pastured poultry. Predation can oftentimes be the leading source of mortality in flocks. The presentation will revolve around how to correctly identify and deal with predators without doing damage to the local ecosystem.
The event will also include a trade show, where Ellis will provide NCAT and ATTRA publications and answer questions. For more information on the 2014 Missouri Livestock Symposium, visit www.missourilivestock.com/.
