NCAT on the Farm!

NCAT on the Farm!

May is always the beginning of the farm season in Northern California. NCAT tries to visit different farms this time of the year to provide technical assistance and training for many different types of farmers. These visits help us understand more and learn about current trends in sustainable agriculture. Recently, Pamela Wolfe, NCAT livestock specialist, has been trying to visit more pastured hog farms to learn more about how farmers are managing their pork businesses and the challenges they currently face. Pamela visited Dinner Bell Farms in Chicago Park, CA. Paul and Molly are owners of this beautiful diversified farm.Their main focus right now is pig production. They raise lard pigs for charcuterie products manufactured in Oakland, CA. Pamela will be visiting more farms like Dinner Bell over the next few months and developing a publication with tips and information for small scale pork producers. Find more information about Dinner Bell Farm on their website: http://www.dinnerbellfarm.com/main/
