Iinníí: The Power of Tradition

Montana FoodCorps member Graham Schreiber had a once-in-a-lifetime experience last month when he joined members of the Blackfeet tribe in Browning to harvest a bison. As Graham writes, bison were a primary food source for many Northern Plains Native Americans, including the Blackfoot Confederacy. Referred to as iinníí in the Blackfeet language, bison also provided hides for shelter and warmth, fat to make soap, and bones for tools.
