With support from the Southern Extension Risk Management Center and Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, NCAT and Heifer International are offering a double-header of workshops for vegetable producers. These events will help you hone your production and business management skills to improve your operation’s efficiency and profitability.
Day 1 — Planning for Success: Sustainable Vegetable Production
Day one will include a discussion of financial management, marketing strategies, produce safety, and digital tools for the savvy grower. We’ll also tour the Heifer Ranch CSA to learn about organic production techniques and protected culture.
Day 2 — Planning for Success: Small-scale Equipment and Scaling-up Production
On day two we will dive into scale-appropriate tools and equipment for vegetable production efficiency, covering everything from hand tools to tractors and implements.
Both workshops will include sessions led by NCAT agriculture specialists and seasoned farmers. These will be intermediate-level workshops geared towards vegetable producers with some experience, but all are welcome.
Location, Times, and Cost
The workshops will be held Wednesday, May 10, and Thursday, May 11, 2017. Both events will last from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place at Heifer Ranch, 55 Heifer Road, Perryville, AR 72126.
The workshops are free and lunch will be provided. Participants are welcome to attend either day or both days. Space is limited, however. To register, visit https://www.ncat.org/events.
