Farminar on crop insurance features NCAT ag specialist
Jeff Schahczenski, Agriculture Policy and Funding Research Director with the National Center for Appropriate Technology, will present a “farminar” on Whole Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP), the evening of Tuesday, January 13, from 7-8:30 p.m. Central time.
The farminar, sponsored by the Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI), will also feature comments and questions by Tony Thompson, a beginning farmer who is operating an expanding CSA on his family’s century farm near Elkhart, Iowa.
PFI farminars provide practical information developed with and by producers and other agricultural experts. The free farminar is being coordinated with assistance from Midwest NCAT, as part of a Risk Management Education Partnership cooperative agreement through the USDA’s Risk Management Agency to educate producers in Iowa and the region about WFRP, a new crop insurance option that is available for the first time in Iowa in 2015.
These farm webinars feature live audio paired with a visual presentation and are recorded for future access. To participate: Go to practicalfarmers.org/farminar, click the link to connect and sign in as “Guest.” All upcoming farminars, as well as archives of past farminars, are also available at this link. It is recommended that first-timers check in to the webinar at least 10 minutes early to make sure their computer is ready.
Schahczenski, a national expert on crop insurance, will also be giving a presentation on the WFRP, Saturday, February 28, at 11 a.m., at the Midwest Organic Sustainable Education Services (MOSES) Conference in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
