The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a national private non-profit organization that works to help people use sustainable technologies to reduce poverty, promote healthy communities and protect natural resources. NCAT is seeking a qualified candidate to work as a Farmer’s Market Outreach Intern. If you are interested in promoting sustainable agriculture practices and working with farmers markets and small producers this is a wonderful opportunity.
This internship will last approximately 3 months. The position will work with local Montana farmers markets and small producers to promote SNAP incentives, collect survey data, and conduct outreach activities at local key markets. There will be some travel involved.
The successful candidates should have good communication skills, excellent organizational skills, an interest or background in local food systems, and familiarity with farmer’s markets and farmers market SNAP programs. The successful candidate will interact with the public and NCAT staff in a professional manner. Computer skills including Microsoft Excel and survey monkey are required. Applicants must be willing to travel, have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable.
Learn new skills and put your college education to work! The intern will have an opportunity to build relationships with farmers and play an integral part in increasing participation of farmer’s market vendors in the SNAP program. The intern will interact closely with professional NCAT staff and leave the experience with increased skills and a better understanding of program evaluation and local food project organization.
$10.60 per hour depending on experience. The position will be around 30 hours per week.
