What is the AM400 soil moisture
monitor?
The AM400 is a small (paperback book-sized) soil moisture data logger manufactured by the
M. K. Hansen Company of East Wenatchee, Washington. The monitor is easy to install,
runs on two penlight (AA) batteries, and can be connected to up to six soil moisture
sensors. The AM400 automatically measures soil moisture every eight hours and
displays the previous 35 days of measurements in a simple-to-read bar graph.
Irrigators can see moisture trends easily, compare moisture levels at different soil
depths, and get instantaneous readings from any sensor whenever they like at the push of a
button. All moisture readings are stored electronically and can easily be downloaded
to a personal computer, enabling producers to analyze an entire growing season or compare
one year to another.
