GEORGIA FUEL FUNDS
- Project Share, a statewide fuel fund, was established in 1984 through a partnership
between Georgia Power and the Salvation Army. The fund, which is administered by the
Salvation Army, was started with $100,000 in seed money from Georgia Power. Customers of
Georgia Power are given the opportunity to check a $1, $2, or $5 donation on their monthly
bill. Stockholders of the company then match these contributions dollar-for-dollar.
In 2001, Project Share provided assistance to more than 43,000 Georgians, with
Georgia Power and its customers contributing $1.7 million to the program. Assistance
includes energy related needs as well as clothing, shelter, food and medicine.
- HEAT is administered by the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) statewide
through Community Action Agencies. Donations come from private citizens, SCANA, AGL
Resources, Georgia Natural gas, Shell Energy and the New Power Company. HEAT donated
$842,172 to the Georgia DHR for 2001.
