Energy Corps State Project Coordinator
The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is seeking a State Project Coordinator to facilitate the National Energy Corps AmeriCorps project. This is a regular, entry-level position providing an excellent opportunity to work with a dedicated and professional staff on local and state projects while developing skills working on a national grant. This is a half-time position. This position will be based at NCAT’s Northeast regional office in Forty Fort, PA. NCAT is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
This is an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate with a combination of education and/or experience in energy, business management or development, project coordination, personnel management or community service. A college degree is preferred, but not required with the right value-added work experience. Minimum requirements include a background in energy or project development. Experience and/or interest in sustainable energy and energy efficiency are desirable.
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in working with project staff to facilitate the National Energy Corps AmeriCorps project. A demonstrated interest and knowledge in promoting energy efficiency, community engagement and sustainable communities is a plus. Excellent communication skills and the ability to learn quickly are very important in this position, as is attention to detail in order to comply with federal grant requirements. A high level of computer literacy is required including use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Training in personnel management or project coordination would be beneficial. Previous AmeriCorps or VISTA experience is useful. Travel is required.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for coordination of the Energy Corps AmeriCorps project in Pennsylvania and in other states as needed
- Facilitate community outreach to identify energy needs and develop relationships with partners to host Energy Corps members that will address these needs
- Assist with Energy Corps member recruitment, management and support
- Collect and maintain paperwork including organizing daily, weekly and monthly schedules, timesheets and reports
- Facilitate AmeriCorps member trainings
- Perform host site monitoring visits and administer project evaluation instruments as appropriate
- Collaborate with project staff to publicize Energy Corps impact and conduct project assessment
Compensation:

Midwest Regional Director

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is seeking a full-time Sustainable Agriculture or Marketing Specialist to direct program work in our Midwest Regional office in Des Moines, Iowa. NCAT is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
This is an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate with a combination of education and experience in agriculture and/or marketing of agricultural products. The position requires the equivalent of an MA/MS degree plus a minimum of two years management or demonstrated leadership experience. Experience in the practice and transfer of information on sustainable agriculture is required. On farm experience is a plus. A background of working for and with non-profit organizations would be useful. Of particular importance would be an interest and knowledge in marketing, organics, agronomy, soils, cropping systems, integrated pest management, livestock production, and/or farm energy topics including bio-based fuels, conservation and renewable. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading collaborative efforts with many partners. You should also be able to recognize and capitalize on new project opportunities not only in sustainable agriculture but in all NCAT program areas. Project development and management experience would be beneficial. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required. If you are interested in this position, you must be willing to relocate to Iowa and to travel extensively.

- Recruit non-profit collaborators and partners for NCAT mission-related work.
- Increase NCAT’s visibility in the region.
- Develop partnerships and projects with sustainable agriculture organizations and other non-profits in the region.
- Seek local, state, and regional development opportunities for NCAT in all program areas.
- Provide focused outreach to the low-income community, especially limited-resource and/or minority farmers.
- Help further NCAT's mission and strategic goals.
- Lead projects, including development and careful management of project resources.
- Research technical information and develop publications for NCAT clients.
- Conduct workshops and other training. Communicate with other NCAT employees, regional office directors, and NCAT management.
Compensation:
Salary range is $40,000 - $50,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include paid vacation and holidays, health, life and disability insurance, a cafeteria and 401(k) plan and a pleasant, professional working environment. NCAT will pay reasonable relocation costs.

Energy Corps AmeriCorps Positions
NCAT is currently accepting applications for Energy Corps AmeriCorps positions. NCAT in cooperation with the Corporation for National and Community Service has created these positions to address unmet community energy needs by promoting sustainable energy consumption and education, fostering community sustainability and helping to mitigate the effects of global climate change. Energy Corps members will be placed with organizations and agencies in communities across Arkansas, Iowa, Montana, and Pennsylvania. Energy Corps Members serving full or half-time commitments will provide service that will achieve the following project goals:
- Hands-On Energy Assistance: provide hands-on energy efficiency and alternative energy assistance to underserved communities and groups.
- Energy Education and Outreach: create energy awareness through education and outreach activities to those groups and communities most affected by energy and climate fluctuations.

Internships
NCAT offers internship experiences for upper-level college and graduate students at many of its offices. Internships may take place during the school year or during the summer. Agriculture Intern
The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a private non-profit corporation that works to promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities. NCAT is seeking a student with an interest in sustainable agriculture to work in our Butte, Montana office. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right student to work on a national program under the direction of an experienced Agriculture Specialist. The student will be working on a number of projects focusing on sustainable agriculture. Special consideration will be given to children of NCAT employees per NCAT"s temporary or summer employment opportunities policy.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the position may include working on NCAT's Small-Intensive Farm Training (SIFT) farm assisting with planting, cultivation, and harvesting of produce; researching information for SIFT informational videos; providing outreach for SIFT workshops; converting our ATTRA publications from HTML to Kindle appropriate format; working with social media such as Pinterest and Twitter to create infographics and post information about NCAT and our projects; and researching information for sustainable agriculture publications. The intern will be working closely with an NCAT Agriculture Program Specialist on a number of projects.
Qualifications:
The internship is available to a qualified currently enrolled college student or one planning to enroll within the next year. The successful candidate will need to have good written and verbal communication skills, an interest or background in sustainable technologies, excellent research skills and a high level of computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The successful applicant will also need to interact with the public and NCAT staff in a professional manner. The ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks is required.
Compensation:
$9.00/hr depending on experience. The position is part time and we are willing to work around your school schedule.
