Project and Evaluation Specialist
The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is seeking a part-time Project and Evaluation Specialist to support and help us learn from our statewide local food programs, including FoodCorps Montana, Grow Montana policy coalition, and Farm to Cafeteria Network. NCAT is a private non-profit organization that works to foster and promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities. Join a dynamic team working on innovative local food and sustainable agriculture projects across Montana. This position is located in Montana.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The position requires the equivalent of a BA/BS degree plus a minimum of three years of related professional experience. The successful candidate will need to be well-organized and able to work independently as well as in a team. You should be an excellent communicator with experience in writing and public speaking. Other qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Close attention to detail
- Interest in sustainable and local food systems
- Ability to travel on occasion
- Problem-solving and critical thinking ability
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry out evaluation plan for various statewide local food projects; activities may include, but are not limited to, interviews, surveys, or focus groups, as well as calculating and synthesizing results
- Assist in fundraising, outreach, and communication efforts
- Develop and support effective internal communication strategies and protocols
- Organize program logistics, including special events, travel, and training, for various statewide local food projects
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$12.00 - $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include paid vacation and holidays, health, life and disability insurance, a cafeteria and 401(k) plan and a pleasant, professional office environment.

Energy Corps AmeriCorps Positions
NCAT is currently accepting applications for Energy Corps AmeriCorps positions. NCAT in cooperation with the Corporation for National and Community Service has created these positions to address unmet community energy needs by promoting sustainable energy consumption and education, fostering community sustainability and helping to mitigate the effects of global climate change. Energy Corps members will be placed with organizations and agencies in communities across Arkansas, Iowa, Montana, and Pennsylvania. Energy Corps Members serving full or half-time commitments will provide service that will achieve the following project goals:
- Hands-On Energy Assistance: provide hands-on energy efficiency and alternative energy assistance to underserved communities and groups.
- Energy Education and Outreach: create energy awareness through education and outreach activities to those groups and communities most affected by energy and climate fluctuations.
- Community Energy Planning and Organizing: work to form energy action networks and organize communities to develop sustainable strategic energy plans.

Minimum Requirements:
- Must be over 18 with a high school diploma or GED; some college or work experience preferred
- Ability to work as part of a team and individually
- Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
- Good organization and communication skills
- Background and/or interest in energy and community development issues
- Must provide own transportation

Internships
NCAT offers internship experiences for upper-level college and graduate students at many of its offices. Internships may take place during the school year or during the summer. Interns work alongside NCAT staff members, strengthening their skills by working with professionals in fields such as computer science, agricultural sciences, accounting, and energy efficiency. Agriculture Intern
The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) is a private non-profit corporation that works to promote sustainable technologies and systems, especially for the benefit of economically disadvantaged individuals and communities. NCAT is seeking a student with an interest in sustainable agriculture to work in our Butte, Montana office. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right student to work on a national program under the direction of an experienced Agriculture Specialist. The student will be working on a number of projects focusing on sustainable agriculture. Special consideration will be given to children of NCAT employees per NCAT"s temporary or summer employment opportunities policy.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the position may include working on NCAT's Small-Intensive Farm Training (SIFT) farm assisting with planting, cultivation, and harvesting of produce; researching information for SIFT informational videos; providing outreach for SIFT workshops; converting our ATTRA publications from HTML to Kindle appropriate format; working with social media such as Pinterest and Twitter to create infographics and post information about NCAT and our projects; and researching information for sustainable agriculture publications. The intern will be working closely with an NCAT Agriculture Program Specialist on a number of projects.
Qualifications:
The internship is available to a qualified currently enrolled college student or one planning to enroll within the next year. The successful candidate will need to have good written and verbal communication skills, an interest or background in sustainable technologies, excellent research skills and a high level of computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The successful applicant will also need to interact with the public and NCAT staff in a professional manner. The ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks is required.
Compensation:
$9.00/hr depending on experience. The position is part time and we are willing to work around your school schedule.
