Our Small-Scale Intensive Farm Training project's first four hoop houses are all sporting their coverings, just in time as early winter weather blows into Montana. And as the program changes the grounds of NCAT's headquarters in Butte, the changes are now being tracked from the air. From a kite, to be precise.

You are in luck if you will be in Montana in December: additional Home Energy Savers workshops have been scheduled for southwestern Montana during the month. These are hands-on sessions designed to teach home energy basics and strategies for lowering home energy costs.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Community Services, Division of Energy Assistance, has awarded NCAT a training and technical assistance contract to continue operating the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Clearinghouse. NCAT has operated the Clearinghouse for HHS since 1988 through successive competitive grants or contracts. The new contract is for one year with two option years.

We recently received grants to conduct six U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (RMA) projects in different regions of the country. We will provide training to assist farmers and ranchers with specialty crop and livestock operations on smaller acreages in lowering their risks by exploring crop-insurance alternatives, market diversification, and financial planning. We are seeking partner organizations to help in providing these trainings.
