You are in luck if you will be in Montana in December: additional Home Energy Savers workshops have been scheduled for southwestern Montana during the month. These are hands-on sessions designed to teach home energy basics and strategies for lowering home energy costs.
The Home Energy Savers Workshops are provided by the Rocky Mountain Development Council in Helena and the Human Resource Council in Butte and the surrounding counties. The workshop schedule is as follows:
-East Helena on December 6th at the East Helena Firehall from 6:00-8:00pm
-Butte on December 8th at the NCAT building on 3040 Continental Dr. from 6:00-8:00pm
-Helena on December 13th at the Lewis and Clark Library from 6:00-8:00pm
-Ennis on December 15th at the Madison Valley Public Library from 6:00-8:00pm
These are free to all participants. Those planning on attending are asked to preregister. The online registration, as well as more information about the workshops, can be found at: www.ncat.org/workshops, or by contacting NCAT at 406-494-4572.
“These workshops are for anyone who wants to learn how to save money on their home energy bills,” said Kiran Singh, a Montana Energy Corps member with NCAT and one of the presenters. “There are tons of ways to save energy around the home, but the first step is understanding how your home uses energy.” Attendees of the workshops will have the opportunity to practice some hands-on techniques before using them on their homes. These include applying weather-stripping to doors and windows, and working with programmable thermostats. “Many of these techniques seem more involved than they really are,” says Singh. “We want to provide residents with the confidence and necessary skills to weatherize their homes.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to fill out an application to participate in the Home Energy Monitoring Program. NCAT is collaborating on this program with both the Rocky Mountain Development Council in Helena as well as the Human Resource Council in Butte and the surrounding counties. In this program residents have a home energy monitor device installed free of cost to monitor their home energy usage in real time, and to track their usage over the course of several months. More information about this program will be available at the workshops.
