We recently received grants to conduct six U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (RMA) projects in different regions of the country. We will provide training to assist farmers and ranchers with specialty crop and livestock operations on smaller acreages in lowering their risks by exploring crop-insurance alternatives, market diversification, and financial planning. We are seeking partner organizations to help in providing these trainings.
"From Maine to California, these new projects will provide us the opportunity to work with this growing segment of agriculture to help them succeed," says Carl Little, Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Communities Program Manager at NCAT.
NCAT is looking for farming organizations that would like to sponsor workshops or other training opportunities under these projects in any of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
“While funding is not unlimited, we have teams of highly experienced sustainable-agriculture educators who can work with farm organizations in these states to provide workshops on any aspects of these broad risk-management areas,” Little said.
As part of this training effort, NCAT is also expanding its assistance to agricultural producers by making available online a tool it developed to help farmers and ranchers determine whether whole-farm revenue insurance supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (RMA) is appropriate for their particular operation.
Workshops exploring this unique crop insurance, known as AGR-Lite, are just one of a number of options available through the RMA training projects. Visit www.agrlitewizard.com to learn more about the AGR-Lite insurance program.
