Sustainable Communities Program

NCAT's Sustainable Communities Program works at the local, regional, and national levels to promote sustainable development in a community context.  The program develops information and demonstration projects that promote a prosperous economy, a healthy environment, and an equitable society--the three pillars of sustainable community development.

Our work addresses a wide array of community concerns, from land-use planning and "smart growth" to resourceful building technologies and alternative transportation.  To carry out this agenda, the Sustainable Communities Program delivers information through electronic media, including websites and CD-ROMs; through educational materials and workshops; and through speakers' bureaus, technical assistance, and demonstration projects. The following is a sample of our current projects.
